What does it mean to honor your mother? I was asked this question recently when I visited with my friend @brookewalker

I’ve thought about the ways I try to honor my mother and in turn, how my children have honored me. As parents age, honoring your mother may look different now than it did when you were 20, or 40.

No matter if your mom is 48 or 88, here are 5 ways to honor her today, some I learned from my mother, some from my children and Grant ♥️ number 5 is the most important to me. Always has been, and always will be. Happy Mother’s Day my friends ♥️

1. Spend time together doing things you know she loves and appreciates. In many cases you will love the same things because she taught you to love what she loves. Does your mom love church? Surprise her by going with her today ♥️

2. Allow your mother grace and room to grow. Forgive for mistakes she made when raised you. Understand that we are all just doing our best navigating the route thru parenthood. My kids have not only forgiven but have given me so much grace by choosing to remember and celebrate the positive things things I did as a mom.

3. Give mom permission to live her life, explore her interests and passions and cheer her on. Whether finishing a degree, learning to paint at 50, starting a food blog or deciding to serve a senior mission. Let her know you support her, even if it means a change in the way life looks right now.

4. Recognize and celebrate your mother’s heritage. Take time to reflect on traditions she established when you were young, adapt and share these customs with your children.

5. Cultivate and work at family relationships. Nothing gives a mother more joy than to see her children love each other. Forgive and forget. Let go of grudges. Work to build family memories together. Become each other’s best friends♥️

I recommend lining the jelly roll pan with a parchment sheet. Bake cake in jelly roll for about 20-25 mins. 350, and 9x13 for 30-40 mins. Cakes are done when the cake springs back when touched lightly or a toothpick inserted in center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached🍰
