Ina's Hoisin Barbecue Sauce

adapted from Ina Garten's Barefoot Contessa Cookbook

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion 1 large
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic 3 cloves
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 cup Dijon Mustard
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup Hoisin Sauce found in Asian section of grocery
  • 2 Tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. In a large sauce pan on low heat, cook the onion and garlic in the oil until the onions are translucent, but not browned. Add the rest of the ingredients, and simmer on low uncovered for about 30 minutes. Store any leftovers in refrigerator.
  2. This makes a load of sauce, but will keep for weeks in the fridge.
