Our festive 20 Minute Mummy Hot Dogs are the perfect easy-to-make party food!

20 minute Mummy Hot Dogs

Gather your ghosts and goblins in the kitchen to create a spooktacular Halloween treat. Kids of all ages can help make our Mummy Dogs for a tasty, haunted bite! Hot dogs in dough “bandages” are baked until golden and wrapped and ready for any dipping sauce you choose.

What Dough Should I Use to make mummy hot dogs?

This recipe is simple and fun, and kids love them! We experimented with both crescent dough sheets and pre-rolled pizza crust, found in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. Both baked up beautifully. Crescent rolls are a bit more flaky while the pizza crust has a chewier texture. Each option is delicious, so use whichever you prefer – or try your own homemade roll or pizza dough.

How to wrap Mummy Hot Dogs
Mummies before baking…

Ingredients to make 20 minute Mummy hot dogs:

Hot dogs: We used 100% beef franks, but turkey dogs or even plant-based dogs work well.

Wrap with: Crescent rolls (popping them open is part of the fun!), pre-made pizza dough, or your favorite roll dough.

Cheesy Mummy: For an extra treat, add cheese to your mummy dogs! Place a strip of cheese under the hotdog, then wrap the dough around both the hot dog and cheese. Bake with the cheese side facing down.

Dips: We love the classics – mustard, ketchup, or BBQ sauce. Try adding blue food coloring to mustard for a creepy-green dip. Ranch dressing is a kid favorite and can be tinted any color.

Eyes: Edible Mini Candy Eyeballs make these mummies look extra cute, but two dots of mustard or ketchup for eyes also do the trick.

Hot dogs wrapped in soft dough look like little mummies for an easy-to-make Halloween treat!

Ingredients

  • 8-10 hot dogs
  • 1 package crescent dough sheets, pre-rolled pizza dough, homemade roll dough, or pizza dough
  • 16-20 edible mini candy eyeballs, or ketchup or mustard
  • strips of cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place rack in the center of the oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Remove dough from package and unroll, or roll homemade dough about ¼-inch thick on a floured surface.
  • Using a pizza cutter, dough scraper, or long kitchen knife, cut dough into long strips about ½-inch wide.
  • Wrap the dough strips around each hot dog, leaving a space at the top for the "face." Overlap the dough to create a mummy-like effect. The dough will stretch a bit as you wrap it, but don't worry if the dough breaks – it makes the mummy look even more authentic! Just keep wrapping.
  • Bake for 12 minutes or until hot dogs are plump and dough is golden brown.
  • After mummies are slightly cooled, “glue” on candy eyeballs using mustard, or use small dots of mustard or ketchup for eyes.
  • For a “cheesy mummy,” wrap a strip of cheese behind each hotdog before baking.

Notes

  • We used edible mini candy eyeballs purchased from Amazon.
  • Serve with favorite dipping sauces: mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce, or ranch dressing. For a spooky twist, color ranch dressing with blue or green food coloring – or any fun Halloween color! Blue food coloring turns mustard a creepy green color!
